Bryoney Calnan

Bryoney Calnan

Year 6 Teacher & Drama Enthusiast

Hello, everyone! My name is Bryoney Calnan, and I have been a devoted fan of musical theatre ever since watching Singin’ in the Rain with my grandparents at the tender age of five. I have been teaching at Blackheath Prep for the past three years, supporting and preparing Year 6 children through the 11+ process. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of my role is working alongside Suzy on the Year 6 production!

I have taught children of all ages for over fifteen years. In previous schools, I directed numerous end-of-term productions and class assemblies, and even founded an after-school musicals club. Watching children come alive on stage—and seeing how that experience builds their confidence and helps them navigate the world—is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

In my youth, I played principal roles in senior school musicals, performed with a well-established amateur dramatics society in Northern Ireland, and achieved my Grade 7 in Theatrical Singing and Performance. Being involved in performance in all its forms helped me build friendships, believe in myself, and pursue my dreams. During my time with the drama society, I even worked as an extra in film and television and appeared on a popular television game show!

Starting a performing arts camp and helping the next generation discover their confidence and passion has long been a dream of mine, and I am excited to see where this journey leads.

Suzy Roberts

Suzy Roberts

Musical Theatre Teacher & Performer

I’m Suzy Roberts, a musical theatre teacher and performer, and I have been teaching at Blackheath Prep since 2013. I’m delighted to be leading this West End workshop, drawing on my professional experience both on stage and in education.

I began my career in the West End, most notably in Mamma Mia!, where I performed for almost ten years. I started in the ensemble, covering roles, and progressed to swing and first cover lead roles, gaining a detailed understanding of multiple tracks and the demands of a long-running production. I also toured the UK in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as a swing and first cover Milly.

Alongside theatre work, I have appeared on television, including The X Factor, Surprise Surprise, This Morning, and The Alan Titchmarsh Show. More recently, I have performed in West End concerts, singing a broad range of repertoire I have long aspired to perform.

I am a passionate advocate for musical theatre, with particular admiration for Stephen Sondheim, especially Into the Woods, as well as Wicked, Legally Blonde, and, of course, Mamma Mia!. I enjoy sharing my professional experience and enthusiasm for musical theatre with students.
